We are excited to announce that “Me…Jane: The Dreams & Adventures of Young Jane Goodall” has been nominated for five 2018 Helen Hayes Awards, which recognize and celebrate excellence in professional theatre in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

The categories in which the musical was nominated include Outstanding Set Design, Outstanding Direction in a Musical, Outstanding Ensemble in a Musical, Outstanding Original Play or Musical Adaptation, and Outstanding Production – Theatre for Young Audiences.

Based on Patrick McDonnell’s Caldecott Honor picture book, “Me…Jane” was adapted for the stage by Patrick, Andy Mitton (who provided music and lyrics) and Aaron Posner (who directed). Christopher d’Amboise provided choreography, and four-time Helen Hayes award winner Erin Weaver played the role of young Jane Goodall.

The musical debuted in November 2017 and received acclaim from news outlets such as DC Theatre Scene and The Washington Post. The play will tour nationally in 2019.

Award recipients will be announced on May 14. Congratulations — and many thanks — to all who brought this play to life.
