It’s been nearly a month since a devastating flood swept through southern Louisiana, damaging buildings and displacing thousands of people and animals. Our hearts go out to all those who were—and will continue to be—affected by the event, and we’re so happy to see that folks from all over the country have since descended on the area to lend helping hands.
Among these helpers are animal rescue groups working to transport hundreds (or more) animals out of Louisiana and into other areas of the country where they can be more easily adopted. On August 16, the Humane Society of the United States was already providing on-the-ground support for more than 130 dogs from the Jefferson Parish Animal Shelter, Companion Animal Alliance in Baton Rouge, and the Plaquemines Animal Welfare Society, which was damaged during the storm.
