Hello, friends!

It seems like just yesterday we were basking in the renewed optimism and revelry of a fresh new year, but here we are: halfway through September and ready to greet the fall season. Can you believe it? We certainly can't.

On September 5, we celebrated 28 incredible years of MUTTS — talk about time flying! On social media, we honored the occasion by posing the question: What's the first MUTTS comic strip you encountered?

As always, your responses brought a huge smile to our faces. You recalled how you came to know MUTTS, favorite strips through the years, and the first strip you remember seeing. Take a look at what others said, and let us know in the comments if you remember your first moments with MUTTS!

"It was when I fell in love with Shtinky Pudding a/k/a Jules. He was on a mission to save all the tigers. From that day, I followed MUTTS." —Linda S.

"I believe, the treasured pink sock from the dryer!!!" — Sylvia S.

"I totally remember the first time I saw MUTTS! It was the 'Prevent Farm Animal Cruelty, Give Animals A Voice: Moo, oink, cluck, peep'" — Heather E.

Also this month, Patrick was featured in Princeton Magazine, where he reflected on the evolution of MUTTS, adaptations of his work, and his upcoming book with His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Heart to Heart! It's set for publication in January 2023.

Finally, as we say "goodbye" to summer and enter 'pumpkin shpice' season, we've been busy prepping some exciting new products for the quickly-approaching holidays. Keep your eyes peeled for some fun MUTTS goodies over the next two months!

In the meantime, we're sending you loving wishes for crisp fall nights, pumpkin patch outings with friends, and dive-worthy piles of fallen leaves.

MY LATE FRIEND LIVI TOLD ME ABOUT THE COMIC STRIP MANY YEARS AGO. DON’T REMEMBER WHAT DATE OR STRIP, BUT I HAVE BEEN A FAN EVER SINCE. MAYBE SOMETIME IN THE 1900’S? AS MUCH AS LOVE DOGS, I AM TORN BETWEEN MOOCH AND SHTINKY/JULES. BUT, MOOCH WINS OUT WITH HIS LINES LIKE THE OTHER DAY…“SO I LEFT HIM THERE AND WAITED IN THE CAR”. [9/9] AND THE LINE ON THE CUP I USE EVERYDAY. “A VENTI SOY CATNIP LATTE”

Moved to my neighborhood 27 years ago. A neighbor had a dog on a chain that watch as I walked by with my dog. I made a copy of Guard dog asking ‘how do you guard against loneliness?’ Placed in their mailbox with a leash.

i just love the friendship between earl and mooch and how they respectively each love their humans so much. cats get a bad rap but mooch embodies what cats are. love them both

I have loved MUTTS from the very first day it was published. It brings me joy every day. My favorite was a Thanksgiving strip with Tom Turkey. The quote said, “I give thanks for this perfect day. Miracle will follow miracle and wonders will never cease.” I love Earl and Mooch! Thank you, Patrick

I can’t even remember when or how I found Mutts, its a least 12 years. All stories are special to me and I am partial to the shelter stories having had 30 years of rescues.

Oh my! I believe it was a strip with Shnelly stalking what turned out to be a cheese doodle laying on the sidewalk. The focus! The tension! The sudden shift in reality! Haven’t we all stalked a cheese doodle? I’ve tried to follow MUTTS every since. The sweetness soothes my soul. Thank you.

I’m not sure when I first encountered Mutts. In addition to a half dozen t-shirts and a few mugs, I have seven framed Mutts prints that always hang, plus three more that switch in for the winter holidays. Shelter Stories week strips are among my favorite, especially 2007 “Bowser”, who got too big, because my Bullmastiffs are big, too. Bowser hangs in a place of honor.

Are there Mutts license plate frames?

I wish we could get personalized “Dog Star” strips (2/17/08) for our lost Earls.

Adore Mutts!!! My all time favorite comic!!! I have to ask that people stop asking for Guard Dog to be freed. He represents and gives a voice to all those ‘real’ dogs that are chained up their entire lives. Guard Dog is not a real animal but there are many real animals that suffer this fate 24/7 !
